Wisdom's Corner: Do Not Grow Thorns

by  Mark McWhorter

Almost everyone is familiar with gardens. Your family may not have one, but you probably have seen one before. You know that the owner of a garden works hard to make sure that it grows good food.

The good gardener will make sure that the plants in the garden get the right amount of water and the right kinds of nutrients (or plant food) so that the plants will grow well.

Sometimes, in spite of what the gardener does, the garden will not tum out right. Instead of good food, only thorns and briers will grow. In spite of the hard work and proper care, the ground just does not produce what the gardener desires. The gardener has no choice but to burn the garden. He does this to destroy all the thorns and briers. He does not accept them as useful so he gets rid of them.

Some people will be like the useless garden. In spite of God's giving them everything they need to grow into good Christians, they will reject Him.

They will not read the Bible. They will not study the Bible. They will not pray. They will not obey what He says to do. And God will not accept these people.

Hebrews 6:7-8 reads, "For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, :receives blessing from GOO; but if it bears thorns and briars, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned."

Do not grow thorns. Keep studying your Bible and obey what it says. Make sure that God will bless you, instead of cursing you.
