No Other Gods

From the beginning of mankind, God has commanded that only He is to be worshipped. "You shall have no other gods before Me" (Exodus 20:3). "...You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve" (Matthew 4:10). The apostle John was instructed to worship God, not angels (Revelation 19:10).

However, throughout history, many people turned to false gods. For example, the Egyptians made gods of the Sun, the Moon, and the Nile River. The Greeks also worshipped many idols (Acts 17:16).

Even today there are those who worship idols. Some may even call themselves Christians. Other religions, such as Hinduism, teach the worship of animals and human ancestors (see Romans 1:22-23).

There is an idea that is popular today. It is sometimes called the New Age religion. Some movie stars and singers have made this belief well-known. These people believe that God is not a special Spirit-Person. They say that God is everything, and everything is God (including plants, animals, and man). But our Heavenly Father is not man (Hosea 11:9). He is a Spirit (John 4:24).

When people believe they are God, they make their own rules for living, rather than obeying God's Word. How sad! Obeying God is what will bring true blessedness or happiness (Luke 11:28).
