A World Without God

Have you ever seen a movie or read a book about some strange, imaginary planet in the future that is ruled by monster robots that want to destroy all humans, or some other wild science-fiction idea? Through the years, many people have imagined "worlds" that weren't really possible, but they make for good stories. What if we could imagine a world without God? What would such a world be like?

First, we must start by saying that such a world simply could not exist. God created everything. He made the dirt, the sky, the planets, and everything in the Universe. Without God, nothing would exist, and nothing could ever be made. But in spite of this fact, let's try to imagine a world without God.

In this imaginary world, there would be nothing good. The Bible says that all good things come from God (James 1:17). There would be no good hugs or kisses from a parent to a child. There would be no good food to eat, or taste buds to enjoy the food. Without God, everything in the world would be harmful, bad, sad, mean, and disgusting.

Also, if there were no God, then there would be no real rules. Every person could do whatever he or she wanted to do. God is good, and He has made rules such as don't steal, murder, lie, or cheat. Without God, people could murder whoever they wanted whenever they wanted, and they would not be doing anything wrong. If there were no God, stealing would be just as good as working for money. A world without rules from God might sound fun at first, but it actually would be terrible.

In the bible during the period of the judges, many evil practices were happening. At the end of the book, the writer explains why these evil things were taking place. The bible says that during that time "everyone did what was right in his own eyes" (Judges 21:25). In a world without God, horrible things would happen because people would do whatever they desired to do. We should be thankful that there is a God Who gives us all good gifts, and Who supplies wonderful rules to help people be happy.

Butt/Ehrman Debate: Suffering and the Existence of God

In this debate, national best-selling author and self-professed agnostic, Bart Erhman, contends that the pain and suffering in the world show that the loving God of the Bible does not exist.
