How did God come about?

by  Digger Doug

Dear Jaron,

Thanks for sending this good question. Actually, God never "came about," because He always was there. He never had a beginning, and He will never have an end. Think about a couple of verses from the Bible: "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God" (Psalm 90:2). The prophet Isaiah wrote that God alone "inhabits eternity" (57:15).

God existed before He created the Universe, because He never started to exist. It's difficult for us to understand the eternal nature of God, because everything we know had a beginning and will have an end. Our souls are an exception to this rule; our souls had a beginning, but will never cease to exist. Let's live so that after we die, we can live forever with God (see Matthew 25:46; 2 Corinthians 4:18).
