When Should I Start Eating the Lord's Supper?

Dear Reader,

One of the reasons that the Lord's people come together on the first day of the week is for the purpose of partaking of the Lord's Supper. The Lord's Supper was not intended to be for everyone. The Lord's Supper is a privilege for Christians—those who have been washed in the blood of Jesus through baptism. Jesus commanded His disciples and all future generations to partake in this memorial. For every Christian, it is an honor to eat the Lord's Supper. By doing this, Christians remember Jesus' crucified body, how He shed His blood, and how He died for sinful man.

Jesus told His disciples: "I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom" (Matthew 26:29). The Lord's Supper is designed for those who have entered the kingdom of God. Jesus said: "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). A person must be born again through immersion to enter the kingdom of heaven, and once he or she reaches that point, he may partake of the Lord's Supper.
