Why Did God Make Mosquitoes?

Buzzzz. Ouch! Smack! Those sounds are usually heard when Mrs. Mosquito pays you a visit. I say "Mrs." Mosquito, because only female mosquitoes "bite."

There are more than 2,500 different types of mosquitoes in the world. Mosquitoes are actually specially-designed little "flies." A fly is an insect with only two wings, and mosquitoes have only two wings. But they can beat those wings at the rate of about 1,000 times a second. Their wings are so thin that even the blood vessels show. Only God could have designed this amazing little system.

However, mosquitoes are sometimes very dangerous because they carry germs that cause harmful diseases in humans (like malaria and yellow fever). Many people wonder why God would create dangerous insects like these. There are two important points that we need to remember.

First, our original "parents," Adam and Eve, were not bothered by disease until they disobeyed God. Because of that disobedience, the human family became weak, and now diseases affect us. In the beginning, God did not intend for any of us to be hurt by His creatures; but this is a price that humans pay for not following our Heavenly Father's instructions. Every mosquito bite ought to remind us to obey God!

Second, mosquitoes are a valuable source of food for many of God's other animals. Frogs, lizards, and fish eat mosquitoes. These insects are important in the balance of nature.

At times, we may wonder why the Creator made certain things in our world. But, we must believe that there was a good reason—whether we are able to understand it or not.
