No Camouflage for Christians

by  Brad Bromling D.Min.

Imagine you are in a building at night and the power goes off. If a girl has a flashlight, do you think she should turn it on and guide everyone to safety, or should she hide the light and just blend in with the crowd? Obviously, she should use the light to help others. Christians are like the girl with the flashlight. God wants them to shine their Christian lights so that they can help guide the world to Him.
Like a light in the darkness, Jesus' true followers stand out from the crowd (Matthew 5:14). They are different from non-Christians, and people should be able to spot them easily. Some Christians try to fit in. They are afraid people will make fun of them if they are different. But the Bible teaches them to be different from the world (Romans 12:2; 1 Peter 2:11-12).
God did not give Christians camouflage--He wants His people to be noticed. Jesus said His followers would be known by their love (John 13:35). They will be noticed if they show true love and compassion for people, and honor God by following His Word (read Mark 12:30-31). If Christians are not different from the world, they won't make a difference for Jesus in the world. Remember His words: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
