Wisdom's Corner: Kiss the Son

A long time ago in the lands where Old Testament Bible characters lived, people had an interesting way of showing respect for a king. When they came into his court they would kiss him. Most of the time they would kiss his cheek or his hat (called a turban).

If two nations or tribes were having an argument, one leader could end the argument by kissing the other leader's turban. This would show that he was willing to live in peace. Also, it would show that he trusted the other leader and was willing to live by his rules.

God wants all leaders of the world to look to Him in the same way. In Psalm 2:10-12, it says, "Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him."

The "Son" spoken of is Jesus Christ. He is ruling on the throne in Heaven. Kings and all people should want to serve Him and live by his commands. The only way to know His commands is to study the Bible.

If you will learn all that the Bible says, obey it, and live the way God wants you to live, then you will be "kissing" the Son. Since you cannot kiss Him in person (because He lives in Heaven), you must "kiss" Him by obeying what is said in His Word, the Bible.

I want to be blessed by God. I do not want Him angry with me. I hope you want the same thing.
