Did You Know? Butterflies and Moths

by  Brad Bromling D.Min.

Do both butterflies and moths come from cocoons? No, the moth comes from a cocoon, but the butterfly comes from a chrysalis (kris-uh-lis). The moth caterpillar makes its cocoon by spinning a fine silk thread around its body. It lives and grows in this silk "house" in the winter. Finally, in the spring, the moth breaks out of its cocoon. The butterfly caterpillar sticks itself to a twig and hangs upside down. It grows a tough, hard skin "house" called a chrysalis. While in its little "house," the caterpillar slowly changes into a beautiful butterfly.

We can learn a useful lesson from moths and butterflies. The Bible says "every house is built by someone...." We can look around us and know that this is true. If you found a cocoon or chrysalis, you would know it had a builder. There is a much greater "house" for all of us. It has a beautiful, blue sky above and the green grass is its carpet. It is furnished with everything we need. Who built this house? The only reasonable answer is: God. The Bible tells us: "For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God" (Hebrews 3:4).
